Zoe Appleton, 22, and Daniel Duck, 24, found themselves locked out of the market, when they were told by a mortgage advisor that they wouldn’t be able to afford a home of their own. That was until they secured a shared ownership home last summer at Clarion Housing Group’s Castle Hill development, in Ebbsfleet.
Zoe, who works as a transport manager in Medway, said: “For a young couple, like us, buying a home outright is almost impossible. But some of our friends – who are also a young couple – recommended shared ownership to us and it’s the best thing we’ve ever done.”
The couple, who had been living with their parents in Gravesend, joined the Help to Buy website to receive updates about new schemes in the area. They were notified about the new homes at Castle Hill in April and promptly arranged to view the show home.
Zoe said: “The homes were much larger than other new builds we had visited and there was plenty of room for parking. We were also really impressed with the amount of green space for the community.
They paid £162,500 for a 50 per cent share of a three-bedroom home at Ebbsfleet. “This is our dream home. The area is fantastic and the homes themselves look beautiful. The people are also really friendly, she said. The location is also ideal - it’s close to Bluewater shopping centre and you can be in London within 20 mins.”
On moving into the home in July, Zoe said: “Getting our keys for the first time was the best feeling in the world. We have moved into a home for life and there is plenty of space here for us to grow as a family.”
