As a young couple living in rented accommodation, Jessica and Thomas were interested to know whether Help to Buy could help them to afford a home of their own in an area they both loved. They had seen advertisements in and around the area when building work started at the Novo development in Great Kneighton, Cambridge.
Jessica explains: “The south side of Cambridge is near to our places of work, with great transport links and is well situated for some of our favourite places such as Granchester, Wimpole Estate, as well as lots of lovely places to eat and drink. When we found out about the Novo development it seemed perfect.”
The couple went to view a two bedroom apartment at Novo, available through Shared Ownership, and were immediately impressed by what they saw.
Jessica says: “Our first impressions were how modern, light and airy the apartment was, with lovely large windows and lots of space. The attention to detail was particularly good, even in the bathroom which had a lovely mirror wall and high quality suite. I remember feeling it reminded me of a hotel bathroom!”
Delighted with what they had seen, Jessica and Thomas went ahead with the purchase, buying a 50% share in the apartment.
Having now lived in their new home since August 2015, Jessica has been able to appreciate the energy efficient features that new build properties offer. “We experienced some very cold weather during the winter and found that the apartment was quick and easy to heat up. The heating kicks in instantly and our energy bills have been much better due to the fact that we are now in a new building opposed to an older property. Having energy saving bulbs is great as well.”
Considering how moving into their new property has changed their lives, Jessica sums things up by saying: “We’re so proud to own our first property together. We’re really enjoying decorating and designing the layout to make it our own, and having the space to be able to host drinks and dinners with our friends and family."
