First time buyers Alanna and Mark were living near Basildon, Essex when they decided the time was right to buy their first home.
“We had heard about the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, and went along to a Help to Buy event to find out more,” explains Alanna. “It was at the event that we first heard about Inland Homes’ Berryfields development in Tiptree.”
The couple have family located close to Tiptree, and Mark remembered visiting as a child; “We knew it was a nice area, with a quaint town and close to the countryside, so we were interested straight away,” adds Alanna.
As Berryfields was then not yet built, the couple visited another Inland Homes development, St John’s in Chelmsford, to get a proper idea of what an Inland Homes scheme is like; “We took a look around the development and the show home and we loved it,” remembers Alanna. “So we did our research, picked a plot at Berryfields which we liked and waited until the launch day.”
Mark and Alanna were ready and waiting at the launch of Berryfields as the doors opened, and secured their plot there and then. “We were very lucky as our two bedroom home was one of only two of that type released that day,” says Alanna.
As the couple’s two bedroom, semi-detached home was purchased off-plan, they were able to get involved with its interior design from the very start; “We picked our own kitchen and all the tiles for the bathroom, as well as our flooring. Now we have moved in it looks really lovely,” smiles Alanna. “We’re so pleased with the garden too – it’s much bigger than we anticipated and the grass and paving looks great.”
As first time buyers, Alanna and Mark took advantage of the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, which offers purchasers the opportunity to secure a property with just a five per cent deposit, with the Government lending up to 20 per cent of the cost of the home and a 75 per cent mortgage making up the rest.
“It was very simple and stress free,” says Alanna. “We used Inland’s mortgage adviser and legal team, which worked perfectly. There was hardly any snagging to be done either, so now we are able to get on with making this lovely new community our home –we couldn’t be happier.”
