The couple and their two children had been renting a home in the popular village for 10 years but were forced to move when their landlord decided to sell.
“It was our first home together as a family and we loved it,” said Charlotte (36). “Our daughter Chloe had already been at school for a year when we were given notice by our landlord. We were obviously devastated because we were living in the ideal location.
“I’m a nurse at the local hospital and Darren works on the motorway, based at junction 5 - so our first priority was to stay in the area. We decided to stay with my parent, whilst we looked for another house to rent.”
Whilst waiting for the right home to come along, Charlotte and Darren were able to save enough money for a deposit. They opted to take advantage of Help to Buy at Barratt’s The Orchards development and take their first steps into the property market.
The scheme is available on all new-build homes up to £600,000 in England. Buyers can become owners with just a five percent deposit of the property value of their new home. Many lenders are able to offer a loan-to-value mortgage because the UK Government provides a guarantee of up to 20 percent.
“This was perfect for us,” added Charlotte. “We wanted to provide stability for our girls, so no-one could take our home away again. Barratt’s new homes at The Orchards fitted our requirements perfectly - the location was spot on and we were able to ‘upgrade’ to a brand new three bedroom home, where our last house only had two.
“We were offered a lot of support by the Barratt Homes’ team. They knew we were first time buyers and were excellent and thoughtful throughout the entire process. Our house already feels like home and we’ve all adapted well. This was definitely the right decision for us. We love Allington. It has good amenities and lots of space for our children. I feel lucky to live where we do.”
The Orchards features a mix of three, four and five bed family homes, within the village of Allington - on the northern fringe of stylish and vibrant Maidstone.
These light, airy and modern homes are set within three hectares of landscaping, with open space, tranquil wildlife ponds and a nature reserve. There are great schools and transport links nearby - and all local amenities are right on the doorstep.
